CLIMATE change will create “serious problems” for local communities by 2050, a new report has warned.
The nightmare scenario has been highlighted by Climate Ready Clyde, which also set out recommendations for action to build the area’s long-term resilience to global warming.
Members of the Glasgow City Region partnership, which involves eight local authorities, including Renfrewshire Council and East Renfrewshire Council, discussed climate change the consequences of climate change at a recent meeting.
Among the likely threats to the local area if climate change continues unchecked is damage to the Erskine Bridge, which would be particularly vulnerable to more regular, stronger gales.
The new report also points out that areas in both Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire which have the highest levels of poverty would be hardest hit by social and economic problems caused by the change in climate.
Green MSP Ross Greer, who represents West Scotland, has called for “urgent action.”
He said: “The solution is about much more than individuals making a few changes to their lifestyles. We need governments and corporations to get serious about a carbon-free society
