Bank of Scotland is to close its Paisley South branch, in Neilston Road, in February.

Paisley and Renfrewshire South MP Mhairi Black has hit out at the decision, branding it “outrageous."

She has now written to Bank of Scotland’s managing director, Robin Bulloch, to ask for an urgent rethink.

Ms Black told the Gazette: “I was disappointed to learn that Bank of Scotland have the intention of closing the Paisley South branch in February 2019.

“This is an indispensable service for many of my constituents and I hope that Bank of Scotland will rethink this decision.

Ms Black has written to Bank of Scotland bosses about the closure

“It is outrageous that banking officials believe they can just up sticks and leave behind the communities and loyal customers they are supposed to serve.”

A number of bank branches across Renfrewshire have closed in recent years, with bosses insisting a move towards online services has changed the way customers access services.

The latest raft of closures being planned by Bank of Scotland will also see the doors being closed at branches in Burnside, Dundee, Glasgow, Keith, Kirriemuir, Lossiemouth and Stonehouse.

A Bank of Scotland spokesperson said:  "We have made the difficult decision to close the Bank of Scotland Paisley South branch. This is due to the changing ways customers choose to bank with us, which has resulted in the branch being used less often.

"We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause, customers can continue to access their banking locally by visiting the nearby Post Office, which is less than half a mile from the branch."
