And this year’s light show will feature one special display as the inaugural winner of the Design a Light competition takes centre stage.

Renfrew High School pupil Amy Smith won the community council’s contest which asked primary pupils to draw a light for 2018’s show.

Amy was chosen as 2017’s winner while a pupil at Kirklandneuk Primary School and was presented with her light at November’s council meeting in the town hall.

The talented artist will join the provost at the show as her Rudolph light is switched on for the first time.

Amy was also tasked with choosing the winner of 2018’s Design a Light to feature in 2019’s show, with Madhumitha Elangovan of St James’ Primary winning the coveted prize.

Callum Reid, chairman of the community council, said: "The artistic skill portrayed in Abby’s design immediately caught my eye.

"The playful and happy design reminded me of the excitement surrounding Christmas for children.

"To see this displayed within the town will share that excitement and festive feeling within the community.

"Amy has given the community something to cherish for years to come."

Renfrewshire’s Provost Lorraine Cameron said: "It’s fantastic that local children have the opportunity to contribute to their community’s display through Renfrew Community Council’s Design a Light competition.
