VOLUNTEERS at a Renfrewshire rescue centre put in a paw-some effort to raise more than £1,000 at their first ever Christmas fair.

A team from the Howwood Animal Support and Rescue Centre welcomed a host of special guests and charity representatives at Elderslie Village Hall.

Every single penny raised went towards the centre’s crucial work with abandoned pets.

Guests were treated to an afternoon of festive fun, with a tombola, raffle and myriad of stalls for shoppers looking for a bargain.

And for good boys and girls, there was a special guest appearance from the man himself as Santa Claus took time out from preparing for his big day to stop off at the event.

Thanks to the generosity of those who went along, a grand total of £1,275 was raised – much to the delight of organisers.

Spokesperson Karen McDonald said: “This was our first time organising the event and we were a wee bit nervous that no-one would turn up but they came along in large numbers and we are so deeply grateful for all of the support.

“It really makes a difference and helps us to care for animals who need our help.

“I would also like to thank everyone who helped out at the event on the day, especially our young volunteers.”
