COULD you imagine waking up on Christmas Day and having no presents to open?

Unfortunately, for some children in Renfrewshire this could be a reality.

But, an appeal is being launched by The Gazette today in a bid to make sure every boy and girl in Renfrewshire gets to enjoy a very special Christmas.

We are teaming up with our local politicians to ask our generous readers to spare a thought for those who might not get everything they wish for this year.

You can play your part by donating toys and help make Christmas Day truly special.

All you have to do is find the perfect gift, drop it off at either Gavin Newlands’ or Tom Arthur’s offices and they will take care of the rest.

Every toy donated will then be passed onto the Renfrewshire Christmas Toy Bank appeal, who will distribute them to families in need.

Tom Arthur, who represents Renfrewshire South, emphasised the importance of ensuring every child in the area has something to open on the big day.

He told The Gazette: “I’m glad to be able to support this toy appeal and will be happy to take donations in through my constituency office in Johnstone.

“It will help bring cheer to children and families who are facing difficulty over the festive period.

“It’s so important that every child has a chance to have their own present to open at Christmas.”

The toy appeal is for gifts for any child and young person under the age of 16.

It is essential that all items are new and unused.

Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said: “As we approach the festive season, unfortunately many families may be struggling financially.

But every child deserves to have a great Christmas.

“That’s why I’m supporting the Gazette’s Toy Appeal.

“f you would like to do something to help those in need this Christmas, this would be a great start.”

A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: “It’s great to see Gazette readers supporting the Renfrewshire Christmas Toy Bank appeal which is a local charity making a huge difference to the lives of local children.”

We want to make sure no child wakes up on Christmas with nothing under the tree.

By donating toys to our festive appeal, you can make a difference in the lives of young people across Renfrewshire.

Any kind of toy is welcome and here’s a list of some suggestions from us:
Babies to toddlers: Dolls, baby books, clothes including hats and gloves, colouring sets, crayons and paints.

Primary children: Art supplies, LEGO, puzzles and games, pencils, board games, sports equipment.

Teenagers: Books, hair accessories, make-up, fidget midget, and toiletries.

Together we can make Christmas special for everyone.
