Iconic Canadian Café and Bake Shop chain, Tim Hortons, has opened the doors of the first Drive Thru Restaurant in Scotland.

Queues of excited Tim Hortons fans awaited the opening of the new site on Linwood Road, Paisley, for the chance to enjoy Canada’s favourite coffee.

Despite the weather, devoted Tim Hortons customers Heather McDonald and Graham Welsh, waited for 9.5 hours and 18.5 hours respectively to be the first through the doors and the Drive Thru.

They were rewarded for their long wait with a year’s supply of free Tim Hortons famous brewed coffee. That’s two cups a day for a whole year!

100 free lunches were also given to the first 50 people in the restaurant and first 50 cars in the Drive Thru following the official opening at 12pm today.

Who is Tim Hortons you may ask? The Tim Hortons brand was founded in 1964 by its namesake, a top professional ice hockey player, who wanted to create a space where everyone would feel at home. Fast forward to 2018 and nearly eight out of 10 cups of coffee sold across Canada are served at Tim Hortons restaurants and more than 5.3 million Canadians – approximately 15 per cent of the population – visit the café daily.

As well as its signature brewed coffee, Canada’s much-loved café and bake shop is renowned for its unique French Vanilla and Iced Capp beverages, a wide range of classic baked goods and of course, Timbits, their famously delicious bite-sized doughnuts.

For something with a bit more sustenance there will be a range of light and hearty breakfast options, well as a variety of lunch items such as sandwiches, wraps, paninis and toasties. All made-to-order using quality ingredients.

The first Tim Hortons in the U.K. opened its doors in Glasgow in June 2017 to huge fanfare, with fans travelling from across the country and queuing overnight to sample the Brand’s famed coffee and baked goods. As Tim Hortons® rolls out nationwide, a further 17 restaurants are now serving guests in and around Glasgow, Cardiff, Manchester and Belfast with excitement levels showing no signs of dropping.

Kevin Hydes, Chief Finance and Commercial Officer of the Tim Hortons franchise in the U.K. said: “We are thrilled to see such a great response to the opening of our first Drive Thru restaurant in Scotland on Linwood Road, Paisley.

It is great to see so many people enjoying our famous brewed coffee, delicious baked goods and freshly-prepared food on the go. We look forward to welcoming the local community to our restaurant.”
