PUPILS at Johnstone High School proved they were class acts back in 2008 as they coined in cash for a worthy cause.

A balloon race was just the start of a jam-packed week of fundraising for the Children in Need appeal.

More than 200 balloons were released, with high hopes they would travel far and wide.

Pupils and teachers alike took part in the fundraising drive.

On the second day, a charity basketball game was held, with youngsters taking on their teachers, and it was the grown-ups who claimed victory, although only by a single point.

The third day signalled the start of the staff’s Strictly Come Dancing adventures.

Eight couples took to the floor and danced their socks off for a chance to be crowned champions.

Each couple was taught the first part of their dance by S6 pupils but had to fill the remaining minute with their own moves.

The winning couple were computing teacher John McGivern and home economics teacher Alison Purves, who impressed with their nifty footwork.

Finally, on the last day of fundraising, Children in Need mascot Pudsey paid a visit to the school, offering hugs and high fives in exchange for money.

All of this, combined with the sale of badges and chocolates and a staff coffee morning, contributed to a grand total of £2,572 raised by the school.
