A SOUP-ER day was had by all at a Johnstone nursery as a special cafe was launched.

St Margaret’s Nursery celebrated the opening of the new soup cafe with a day full of winter-warmer treats and good company.

Following a proposal made as part of the Renfrewshire Schools Dragons’ Den competition, the early learning centre received funding to start a cafe where youngsters could not only make their own soup but also invite friends, family and locals to enjoy a ‘hug in a mug’ each month.

The idea started when nursery staff noticed how interested the children were in following recipes, leading to the creation of soup bags which could be bought for £1, allowing little ones to make meals at home.

Senior nursery officer Julie Hinchliffe said: “One child gave soup to her neighbours who were sick, another has gained so much confidence from the project.”

The next gathering at the cafe will be on Thursday, January 10, at 12.30pm.
