STAFF at a major UK retailer face an uncertain future after the firm plunged into administration for the second time. 

HMV, which has one Renfrewshire based store in Braehead, could become the first major retailer to collapse following a brutal Christmas period. 

It is he second time the firm has faced the prospect of closure in just six years amid last-ditch talks with suppliers. 

According to Sky News, over 2,000 jobs could be at risk nationwide with 125 stores potentially being lost from the high street. 

The music retailer has appointed administrators at KPMG following weak sales over the crucial Christmas trading period.

The disappearance of the last major specialist music retailer on the high street is something the ‎record labels have been keen to avert for years.

HMV, which was then a publicly traded company, fell into administration in January 2013.

The firm has closed several Scottish stores in recent years, including the ones based in Silverburn and the Glasgow Fort.
