A BUS driver has appeared in court charged with hoarding child abuse images on Christmas Eve.

Pierangelo La Mantia, of Renfrew, is said to have been caught with 30 pictures and 14 films of children being sexually abused.

Prosecutors claim La Mantia had the files on a Fujitsu laptop found in the living room of his home during a police raid on December 24.

La Mantia, 27, was detained in connection with the case on Boxing Day after a forensic search of the laptop is said to have uncovered the files.

He was held in police custody before appearing in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday.

La Mantia made no plea to the single charge against him, brought under Section 52A(1) of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982, and was released on bail.

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew put special conditions in place, banning him from having any deliberate direct contact with anyone under the age of 16, unless they are passengers on a bus he is driving, and continued the case for prosecutors to investigate further.

No future court dates have been set but La Mantia is expected to go on trial before a jury some time this year.
