AN energetic dad was hoping to win over TV’s toughest judge with his disco moves back in 2009.

Peter Stewart, 51, was getting ready to dance in front of the cameras for Simon Cowell after getting through the first round of auditions for Britain’s Got Talent.

But the dad-of-three, who was also the world’s disco dancing champ, revealed his bid for fame would be tinged with sadness, 24 years after his daughter passed away.

Peter devoted his spare time to raising cash for charity after losing 10-year-old Lorraine to leukaemia.

He said at the time: “Lorraine died in 1985 and it’s still very difficult to talk about.

“She died just a few months after being diagnosed with leukaemia.”

Peter said he hoped appearing on the show would help raise the profile of the charity work he carried out in her memory.

He was set to dance in front of star-spotter Cowell and millions of viewers as he competed in the West of Scotland heat of the hit TV show.

And his upbeat routine had hit the headlines before.

Peter, who was born in Johnstone and grew up in the town’s Maple Drive, danced for 17 days in 1983 to become the world Disco Dancing Non-Stop Marathon champion.

He said he was “so excited” to be appearing on Britain’s Got Talent.

“They can buzz you off as soon as you step on the stage but I hope that doesn’t happen,” added Peter.

“I’ve been to the gym to work out and now I’m ready.”
