THE director of care at Erskine veterans’ charity has been nominated in a list of 100 Outstanding Nurses for 2018.
Derek Barron was listed as one of the top nurses of the year by social media nursing community WeNurses after being nominated by his peers.
He has led the care team at Erskine since 2016 and is among nurses celebrated for making a difference to patient care and nursing practice and for promoting nursing.
Mr Barron said: “I am delighted to have been included in this list, firstly because it is my peers who have nominated and recognised my contributions but also because of the other outstanding nurses who are included in the list.
“I’d like to thank those who nominated me and the nurses who judged this list and included me in it.”
WeNurses invited its Twitter followers to shine a light on some of the unsung heroes of nursing.
All the nominations were reviewed and independently scored from one to four, with the list then whittled down to the final 100 names. This accolade is yet another for Mr Barron who, in 2017, was awarded one of the first Fellowships of the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland for 50 years.
The charity has two care homes in Bishopton – the Erskine Home and Erskine Park Home.
