COUNCIL chiefs have rejected a bid to allow a snack van to trade in a Renfrewshire street after hearing the area is already blighted with parking problems.

LI Tea’s Limited had an application to sell soup and rolls in Marchfield Avenue, Paisley, knocked back following objections made by councillors.

Councillor Kenny MacLaren told a meeting of Renfrewshire’s regulatory functions coard: “There’s been a long-running issue of parking problems in Marchfield Avenue, such as double parking and parking on kerbs.

“We have reported these to community warden and we believe agreeing to this licence would only make the parking situation worse.

“Myself and Councillor Mags MacLaren have been contacted individually at our surgeries and collectively at Paisley North Community Council.”

Joyce Bunton, secretary of the community council, added: “It’s a well-established residential area, with new flats being built at the Inchinnan Road end. If this application had been made prior to the flats, then it would’ve been a different story because it would be servicing the builders but the building is almost complete, so it’s not.”

A decision to reject the application was agreed unanimously by the board.

Speaking after the meeting, Councillor MacLaren added: “With the additional new housing in Marchfield Avenue there will continue to be a problem for residents finding a parking space and any snack van would only make these problems worse.

“I was pleased that Joyce Bunton, secretary of Paisley North Community Council, also highlighted their objections to this application and we are both pleased that the councillors on the regulatory functions board agreed to reject the application.”
