A VILLAGE councillor has raised concerns a Bridge of Weir road is set to close for works for the second time in three months.

Councillor James MacLaren, who represents the area, has hit out at the closure of Lawmarnock Road, which is set to shut for eight weeks from Monday after already closing for that time in October.

The Conservative councillor said the latest closure is ‘excessive’.

The road is set to be closed until March 3.

Mr MacLaren said residents’ concerns had not been taken into account.

Cllr MacLaren said: “I find it hard to believe Lawmarnock Road is going to be closed for another eight-week period, with residents having had to endure this closure last year as well.

“It seems the concerns from residents are not being taken into account at all when roadworks are being scheduled, which is extremely disappointing.

“Residents expressed their unhappiness last time these works took place. I will be monitoring the roadworks closely in the coming weeks to see the effects they are having.”

The road runs to the south of the village, adjacent to the Old Ranfurly Golf Club.

In March last year, Cala Homes was granted permission to build 12 new homes in the area, with access off Lawmarnock Road. Renfrewshire Council has confirmed the closures are being carried out by utility companies on behalf of Cala Homes.
