ONE of Renfrewshire's leading cops has issued an urgent plea in the hunt for a missing pensioner.

Allan Burns, 71, was last seen at around 3.15pm on Friday on the cycle path at Kilbarchan, heading towards Lochwinnoch.

He was reported missing by family when he did not return home.

Officers have been conducting specialised searches across the area today and 80 members of the public assisted in efforts yesterday.

Areas searched included Kilbarchan, Castle Semple, Lochwinnoch and the cycle path.

However, Allan is still missing and, while remaining confident they will find him, officers are increasingly concerned about his whereabouts.

In a new message, Hazel Scott, area commander for Johnstone, Renfrew, and the whole of Renfrewshire, said: "We're still looking for Allan Burns who has been missing since Friday.

"The latest is that we have got detailed searches but we would encourage everyone to help us greatly by making sure to search their outbuildings, gardens and garages.

"And we would appeal to Allan directly. Please get in touch Allan and please let your family know that you are safe."

Anyone with any information regarding Allan’s whereabouts is asked to contact Police via 101, quoting incident number 4197 of Friday 18 January 2019.
