RENFREWSHIRE Council has rubbished claims another new bin was set to be introduced after rumours circulated on social media.

Labour Councillor Karen Kennedy had posted a message on the back of yesterday's Infrastructure, Land and Environment Board suggesting it had been confirmed a new bin was on the way to separate glass.

Cllr Kennedy, who represents Paisley Northwest, wrote:  "Guess what your (sic) all going to be getting yet another new bin, now to seperate glass.

"Just been confirmed at infrastructure land and environment (sic) policy board."

Renfrewshire Council’s new refuse service - which aims to boost recycling - was rolled out at the beginning of December last year.

It saw residents issued with a new green bin for plastics, cans and glass - meaning the blue bin is now for paper, card and cardboard only.

However, on the back of Cllr Kennedy's message, many took to social media to express their frustration at talk of a new bin.

But, the SNP led administration hit back within hours.

Emma Rodden, who represents Johnstone, North, Kilbarchan, Howwood and Lochwinnoch, wrote: "Please be advised, Renfrewshire Council has not today confirmed that there will be a new bin.

"There are no plans to introduce another bin, despite opposition councillor's posts on Facebook to the contrary."

A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: "We can confirm there was no decision made to change the number or types of bins for households in Renfrewshire at the Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board yesterday.”

The bin changes have been criticised by many in the area, with grey general waste bins now only collected once every three weeks, instead of once a fortnight.

Renfrewshire Council has implemented the bin changes as part of a drive to improve recycling in Renfrewshire and reduce the costs associated with disposing of general waste.
