A LEADING housebuilder has pulled out of a move to create hundreds of new properties in Erskine.

The Erskine Bridge Hotel was facing an uncertain future amid suggestions Persimmon Homes wanted to build 300 homes on the site.

Residents were fearful the town did not have the infrastructure to support another development, with many expressing concerns the roads would become packed with traffic.

But, this week, Renfrewshire Council leader Iain Nicolson said Persimmon has pulled out of a development.

Councillor Nicolson, who represents Erskine and Inchinnan, said: “Persimmon were on site, however a planning application was never submitted.

“Upon enquiries, I was told last year they no longer had an interest and there were a number of reasons for their decision.

“The owners of the property can still pursue development, however there has been no further indication of movement on that front.

“As local councillors we will be monitoring this and will advise if change occurs.”

Cllr Nicolson, along with fellow ward councillor Michelle Campbell, held a public meeting last year to gauge the views of residents.

Some said ‘greed had taken over’ with regards to the number of housing developments popping up around the town.

The hotel was unavailable for comment.
