BROOKFIELD Community Council has renewed its backing for the village’s section of the A761 to remain a 30mph road.

Since the introduction of 30mph signs in Bridge of Weir Road at the beginning of 2014, the stretch between the Deafhillock Roundabout and the Branscroft Junction has seen half the number of incidents.

The limit had been reduced from 60mph.

Marjory Love appeared at Monday’s audit, risk and scrutiny board to reaffirm the community council’s support for the speed limit staying in place.

Traffic police also want to see the stretch in question remain a 30mph road.

At November’s board, Police Scotland’s Ryan McAuley said: “I manage Renfrewshire Council’s complaints for speeding locations and I’ve not seen Brookfield for some time now.

“Police Scotland’s position is we wouldn’t support an increase and would like it to remain as a 30mph speed limit.”

Environment officer Mark Higginbotham said: “It seems appropriate and it’s doing its job.”

That view was supported by transportation manager Andrew McNab in a report.
