A NEW report has revealed a giant gulf between house prices in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.

The average house price in Renfrewshire is more than £100,000 less than that of its close neighbour, according to a study by Your Move.

The average value of a property in Renfrewshire stands at £146,000, which is significantly lower than the national average of £186,142.

Prices rose by 1.8 per cent in the area between November 2017 and November 2018, which equates to one of the smallest increases in the country.

Meanwhile, the average price of a home in East Renfrewshire is almost £250,000, making it the second most expensive area to live in Scotland behind Edinburgh, where it will cost you an average of almost £300,000.

However, the area saw the biggest drop in average house price in mainland Scotland between November 2017 and November 2018, with a fall of 4.6 per cent.

While annual price growth south of the border continues to fall, dropping under one per cent, in Scotland it hit six per cent in November last year, and set a new peak average home price.

Christine Campbell, Your Move managing director in Scotland, said: “The Scottish market continues to go from strength to strength and its performance in recent months has been highly positive.

“When we’re seeing a slowdown in house price growth south of the border, it’s encouraging to see that Scotland’s housing market continues to exceed expectations.”

Between October and November last year, the average house price in Renfrewshire did not change, while in East Renfrewshire it went down by 2.6 per cent, the second biggest monthly average decline behind East Dunbartonshire.

Overall, 29 of Scotland’s 32 local authority areas recorded an increase in values over the last year. The Scottish market’s growth dwarfs not only every English region, but also Wales and Northern Ireland.

An area of slight concern for Scotland is year-to-date transactions for the first eight months of 2018 were four per cent lower than in 2017.
