THE Johnstone train station car park has reopened ahead of schedule after resurfacing work was completed.

Commuters had been braced for a month of disruption when work began on Saturday, January 5, and was expected to last until Monday, February 4.

However, ScotRail - who were responsible for the project - announced the work has been completed early and reopened the car park yesterday.

While the car park has been closed, commuters who normally use the station were having to leave their vehicles in nearby residential streets or use alternative stations in Renfrewshire.

The likes of Overton Road and Ellerslie Street were packed with cars with many describing the disruption as an "absolute nightmare".

A ScotRail spokesperson said: “We’re really pleased that Johnstone station car park has reopened ahead of schedule.

“The resurfacing of the car park has created a high standard of access to the station, and will benefit customers for the years to come.”
