A JOHNSTONE man is facing trial accused of going on a rampage in a Paisley street while armed with a knife.

Robert Docherty is said to have had a weapon on him, without reasonable excuse or permission from the government, in the town’s Causeyside Street and New Street on April 13 this year.

It is also claimed 37-year-old Docherty behaved in a threatening or abusive way at a property in New Street on the same day.

Prosecutors claim he forcefully kicked a door, shouted, swore, threatened violence and brandished the knife on the day in question.

Docherty, of McDowell Street, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him when he appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court for the first public hearing in connection with the case.

After hearing that prosecution and defence lawyers were ready for a trial to start, Sheriff Seith Ireland set a date for March and adjourned the case until then.
