TWO men and a woman have been cleared of carrying out a baseball bat attack in Linwood.
It was claimed that Gareth Gilchrist, 43, Sharon Gilchrist, 39, and Mark Campbell, 37, attacked Robert Muir in Bridge of Weir Road and Cowal Drive on December 28 last year.
They were accused of striking him with the baseball bat, leaving him permanently disfigured.
The trial of the Gilchrists, of Bridge of Weir Road, Linwood, and Campbell, of Kintyre Avenue, Linwood, who maintained their innocence, took place at Paisley Sheriff Court.
Mr Muir told the jury he was in Cowal Drive when a car pulled up, people got out and he was assaulted. He said he ended up in an altercation with Gareth Gilchrist.
The jury heard a police statement made by Mr Muir, in which he said: “The young male ran to the side of me and punched me several times in the face.”
However, when quizzed about the statement in court, Mr Muir said: “I can’t remember saying that.”
Procurator fiscal depute Claire Nicholls told Sheriff David Pender she was no longer seeking a conviction. All three accused were found not guilty.
