COMMUNITY groups are celebrating after being awarded a share of £1,000, thanks to The Gazette and a leading housing developer.

We teamed up with Taylor Wimpey West Scotland to give community groups across Renfrewshire the chance to bag a cash boost through the developer’s Community Chest initiative.

Residents were asked to send in their nominations for any groups they felt were deserving of a grant.

And after The Gazette editorial team chose the top three contenders, readers picked Corseford Tenants and Residents Association in Johnstone as the top prize winner.

The group, which is aiming to regenerate the Corseford area to make it more appealing for children, will be taking home £500 to boost its projects.

Meanwhile, Johnstone charity Active Communities came in second place and will take home £300, and Johnstone Central Scout Group clinched third place, with a prize of £200.

Corseford Tenants and Residents Association plans to put the cash towards the funding of a play area for children.

Kevin Dick, vice chairman, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support of Taylor Wimpey and it was lovely to find out we had received the most votes from the local community.

“We are always grateful for any extra funding we receive and Taylor Wimpey’s donation will give us a welcome boost to the projects we have planned.

“We’re also delighted to see two other local groups have benefitted.”
Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said:

“At Taylor Wimpey we are proud to support local causes such as Corseford Tenants and Residents Association, Active Communities and Johnstone Central Scout group, who all do such valuable work.

“We hope our donations to each of these organisations will help them to continue their activities for a range of people of all ages locally. We were delighted with the number of votes we received from the local community throughout this competition.”
