POLICE investigating a serious assault in Renfrewshire have asked for a taxi driver to get in touch.

Detectives looking into the alleged incident at an address in High Calside, Paisley, in January want to speak to the man who dropped off four people in the area.

The taxi driver is believed to have picked the party up in Bath Street and Hope Street, both Glasgow, in a dark coloured Skoda Octavia taxi at around 2am on January 13.

The men, aged in their 20s, are believed to have spoken with an accent from the North East of England, while the women in the party, 18, are described as white.

Police are keen to assure the driver that he is not a suspect but could prove a crucial witness in the case.

Detective Constable Grant Spy, of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde CID, said: "I am keen to trace the man driving the taxi as he may have information which can assist our ongoing enquiry.

"I would like to emphasise that this individual is not considered to be a suspect and is being sought as a witness only.

Anyone with any knowledge of his identity should get in touch with me as soon as possible via 101."
