POLICE investigating the death of a Renfrewshire pensioner are looking to speak to a driver who they believe was there at the time of the incident. 

George Wilkins, 84, was struck when crossing Clippens Road, Linwood, back on Tuesday, January 15, at around 4.45pm.

The elderly man had been rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but passed away despite the efforts of medical staff. 

The driver of the Vauxhall Combo was uninjured. 

Police believe a new-style Vauxhall Astra was travelling behind the van at the time of the incident.

Sergeant Kenny Malaney said: "At the time of the crash, the area would have been busy with vehicles and pedestrians.

"From our enquiries we believe that a new-style red Vauxhall Astra was travelling behind the red Vauxhall van at the time of the collision.

"I would urge the occupants of this vehicle, and anyone else who may have witnessed the incident to contact me on 101 quoting incident number 2539 of 15th January 2019.”
