RENFREWSHIRE’S very own ‘super gran’ has been honoured for decades of service to the community.

Jean Kane, 71, has seen three generations of her family pass through the doors at Bishopton Primary during her 41 years as a dinner lady there.

A former pupil at the school, she is one of the village’s best-known faces.

Now she has been rewarded for her efforts after collecting an award for long service from Renfrewshire Council in a ceremony at Johnstone Town Hall.

Jean’s proud daughter Lesley told The Gazette: “Mum has worked non-stop and hasn’t been given enough credit for all she has done over the years.

“She never makes a fuss and hasn’t made a fuss about this award but, secretly, she will be happy.”

Jean is still busy dishing up meals at Bishopton Primary, where youngest grandson Luke is a pupil.

She also has a connection with Erskine Golf Club, where she worked as a waitress, dating back 40 years, and gives up countless hours of her time to support charity.

Wendy McNaught, headteacher at Bishopton Primary, said Jean will be sorely missed when she finally does decide to retire.

She added: “Jean is loved by everyone at the school and in the community.

“She is part of the fabric here and we all love her.”
