THREE winning siblings were harnessing huge amounts of horsepower a decade ago as they achieved success in two very different sports.

Paul Baillie, 15, and his 10-year-old sibling Brett were making a name for themselves in the rough and ready world of motocross, while their 11-year-old sister Chloe was winning competitions in the more genteel pastime of showjumping.

Johnstone High pupil Paul was the best up-and-coming rider in the hugely-popular motorcycle sport, while talented Chloe, who attended Lochwinnoch Primary, had won more than 100 rosettes at horse shows.

Proud parents Paul and Dot, from Lochwinnoch, said their kids were costing them a fortune – but insisted it was all worth it.

Paul said at the time: “I am very proud of what they have achieved so far. Paul came fourth overall at the last big race, which had 40 riders from across Scotland, and Brett was really thrown in at the deep end when he started racing a few months ago but he has taken to it like a duck to water.

“Chloe came first at showjumping and she loves it so much that she, like the boys, wants to continue when she is older.

“It has cost us about £15,000 so far and Paul has three bikes, two Honda CRS 150s and a less powerful Kawasaki KX85. Brett has a Kawasaki KTM65s.

“My heart is in my mouth when they start a race, especially when there are a lot of riders, but once they get going and round the first bend, I can relax a bit.”

Paul continued: “We have also been very lucky to be sponsored by Honda Phoenix but it is not cheap.”
