KILBARCHAN Guides had stars in their eyes as they took part in a fun science event back in 2005.

The girls visited Glasgow Science Centre, where they learned to identify constellations such as Orion’s Belt and the Big Dipper.

They also took part in a trail run around the state-of-the-art riverside venue, on the banks of the River Clyde.

Other Guides in the group teamed up with the Paisley YMCA Amateur Radio Club at the time to host Guides on Air – an annual event run in conjunction with World Thinking Day celebrations.

The girls took it in turns to speak on the radio to fellow Guides and Scouts based in cities all over the world.

They spoke to Guides across the UK and as far away as Slovakia, in Eastern Europe.Chatty ones from Rotterdam, in Holland, also talked away in Dutch, which had to be translated by the radio operator.

Meanwhile, Sophia Kidd and Elspeth Chalmers were flying the flag for Scotland when they met the country’s Chief Commissioner Liz Pitcairn as she officially opened the Kilbarchan Guide Centre.

Both girls were wearing the Scottish Girl Guiding tartan neckerchief, which Liz was delighted to see.

She always made sure she wore the tartan at events and, on this occasion, she even brought along her tartan clutchbag to mark a special day in the group’s history.
