A STUDENT single-handedly scooped a team trophy for her school at a language contest in 2005.
Ania Pieczara, 18, achieved the amazing feat, despite being up against large groups from top Glasgow and Edinburgh schools.
The teenager was the sole representative for Trinity High, Renfrew, at the Latin and Greek prose and verse contest held at Glasgow University back in 2005.
And she wiped the floor with competitors by dazzling judges with her performance skills.
Ania won first place in the senior Latin verse section, took the Latin prose prize and came second in senior Greek.
She had only just started Greek lessons with teacher Colin Caldwell at the beginning of term.
Ania told The Gazette at the time: “I was very surprised and pleased when I won the trophy, especially as I was on my own and up against private schools like Glasgow High and Glasgow Academy.
“My teacher has been a great help. In the competition, you had to get all the accents and the movements right, which was tricky.
“My language skills must run in the family because my dad Stan is Polish and speaks that language, as well as German, English and Russian, while my mum Kathleen is fluent in French.
“I’m going to start a course this year in Russian and Slavonik studies at Glasgow University. I’ll be approaching the RAF to see if they will sponsor me as I hope to become an intelligence officer.”
