PLANS to breathe new life into a popular park in Bridge of Weir have been praised by a councillor.

A vision has been outlined for Houston Road Park, which will see Renfrewshire Council cash invested to make it more accessible for all children.

Council officers have proposed the installation of two pieces of play equipment, which can be used by able-bodied children and youngsters with poor mobility.

There are plans to replace a toddler swing and introduce percussion instruments and games panels. Improvements will also be made to the surrounding paths.

The changes are expected to take place in the summer months.

Councillor Natalie Don, who represents Bridge of Weir, said: “I am thrilled this has now progressed and we have a real vision for the plans for the park.

“This funding was confirmed several years ago and back then as a member of the community council, I was part of the sub-group involved in the original discussions over where it should be directed.

“That is why as a councillor, I have made this investment in the park a top priority, along with both the tenants and residents association and the community council.

“I was very happy with the final decision to make the park more inclusive for all children. This work, coupled with the improvements to the paths will completely transform the park and I am excited to see this progress.”

Chris Gilzean, chairman of the Bridge of Weir Tenants and Residents Association said: “We are absolutely delighted about the new play equipment that is proposed for Houston Road Park.

“The tenants and residents assocation has spent the last few years in discussions with the council over what was required for this park and the introduction of play equipment that was easily accessible by children with mobility problems was always our top priority.

“Our thanks go to the community council for backing us in our endeavours to get these park improvements and to Councillor Don for helping us to get our proposals to fruition.”
