MORE has to be done to stop people dying from drug addiction, a leading campaign group has warned.
Official figures from the Scottish Government show the number of drug-related deaths in Renfrewshire has nearly doubled compared to a decade ago.
According to the latest statistics, an average of 28 people in the local area lost their lives due to drugs each year between 2013 and 2017, compared to an average of 15 deaths each year for the period from 2003 and 2007.

Bosses at the Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF) believe addicts must be given greater support to address their issues.
David Liddell, the charity’s CEO, told The Gazette: “Desperate people have to wait weeks or more to get a prescription. In that time, they can lose motivation. Some die waiting.

“People also need help with underlying problems. Support for their mental and physical health, having something to do and some money will also help. These basic measures can support people in recovery.”
