A YOB went on a wrecking spree with a baseball bat after being turfed out of a house party.

Andrew Naismith was drinking at a property in Netherhill Road, Paisley, in January this year but trouble flared when he was asked to leave.

He lashed out in anger, grabbing a metal baseball bat from the back seat of his car and using it to smash the front door of the property and a car that was parked in the driveway.

The details emerged when Naismith, 22, appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court to be sentenced over the events of January 19 this year.

Procurator fiscal depute Jennifer McKee explained: "The locus, on Netherhill Road, is the house of the complainer, Martin Paul, and his partner.

"On Saturday, January 19, 2019, the accused was within the locus with a number of parties and they were all consuming alcohol."

At around 1pm, Naismith was asked to leave the property and did so.

Miss McKee added: "He entered his motor vehicle and drove it across the roadway, across the pedestrian walkway towards the house.

"The accused stopped short of the house, in the driveway, exited his vehicle and took a silver metal baseball bat from the back seat of his motor vehicle.

"The accused smashed the rear window of the witness Paul's vehicle, which was also parked on that driveway."

Naismith then smashed the glass in the front door of their home before taking off on foot, leaving his car in their driveway.

The police were phoned and they caught him at the house after he made his way back there but he refused to comply with a breath test.

Sheriff Lindsey Kooner was told Naismith had caused damage totalling £600 but had paid back £400.

She could have caged him for the offences, which she described as "very serious."

Instead, she placed him on a 15-month-long Community Payback Order which will see him supervised by social workers.

Naismith also has nine months to carry out 270 hours of unpaid work and was banned from driving for 15 months.

Sheriff Kooner also ordered him to cough up £200 in compensation, so he pays for all of the damage he caused.
