TIGHT restrictions are being placed around Glasgow Airport as the world’s largest commercial passenger aircraft prepares to jet into the city, writes Aftab Ali. 

Eager plane spotters are being given the chance to see Scottish aviation history being made on Tuesday when the transport hub and Emirates welcome the massive double-decker A380 jet.

Airport bosses have invested around £8 million in their infrastructure to make sure the airport is ready for the big moment as flight EK025 arrives at 7.45pm tomorrow.

With huge public interest in the event, the airport and Police Scotland have put restrictions into place on the big day.

There is no parking permitted on any of the airport surrounding roads, including Abbotsinch Road, Walkinshaw Road and Barnsford Road.

The Gazette:

Strictly no vehicles are to be parked within three metres of the airport perimeter fence on the above roads.

Police and airport security will enforce no parking regulations to ensure these three roads remain free flowing to allow emergency vehicle access at all times.

Lastly, no ladders are permitted against the perimeter fence on the above three roads.

Those who wish to stand and see the giant plane land can do so along Abbotsinch Road, Walkinshaw Road and Barnsford Road - but no vehicles must be parked.

Six hours of free parking is available in the airport’s long stay car park and all visitors coming to view the aircraft’s arrival and departure 9.30pm should make use of this.

The walking route from the long stay car park to the west and east side of the airport is available using pavement routes.
