THICK smoke from a tyre fire blaze in Paisley brought traffic to a crawl on the M8 yesterday evening.
Firefighters tackled the fire after it took hold on a large pile of tyres near Candren Road at about 6pm on Monday.
Thick black smoke could be seen blowing over the A737 southbound and M8 St James westbound, close to Glasgow Airport.
Traffic Scotland warned motorists to take care as vision was obscured from the A737 near Linwood to the M8 at St James.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 6.00pm on Monday, April 15 to reports of tyres on fire near Candren Road, Paisley.
“Operations Control immediately mobilised two fire engines to the scene and firefighters extinguished the flames.
“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
