A FAMILY suffered a terrifying ordeal this morning when a thug armed with a taser tried to rob them in a Johnstone street.

The crook targeted a 29-year-old takeaway delivery driver who was walking along Cochranemill Road at around 12.05am.

Police said the victim was approached by a man armed with the weapon, which can incapacitate someone by delivering an electric current when fired.

In the moments that followed, the delivery driver was attacked but managed to flee to his Nissan Micra car, which had his partner and their three-year-old daughter inside.

The thug then chased after him and smashed one of the car's windows, with the child suffering cuts to her legs as she was showered with glass.

Police confirmed the crook was left empty-handed as the delivery man managed to drive off in the direction of Beith Road.

Detective Inspector Robert Bowie, of Paisley Police Office, said: “This was a terrifying incident for this young family and, luckily, they were not seriously injured during this attack.

“A dark-coloured van was seen in Cochranehill Road whilst this incident took place and I am appealing to the occupants of that vehicle to get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
