TWINKLED-toed school teachers donned their most glamorous outfits and hit the dancefloor for a competition with a twist.

A total of 12 contestants waltzed out of their comfort zone of the classroom and took to the floor to compete for the ‘Renfrew High Does Strictly’ glitterball.

The event took place at the town’s Glynhill Hotel and mostly involved staff from Renfrew High, along with one competitor from Gryffe High, in Houston.

After a close-run contest, it was Renfrew teachers Stuart Conway and Lynsey Keenan who took home the title.

The event raised £1,400 to improve mental health services at Renfrew High, with the money going towards hiring yoga and mindfulness instructors and the school’s nurture base, where pupils who may be struggling can take some time out.

And with more money still to be counted, dance choreographer and deputy headteacher Carolanne Calderwood said she couldn’t have been more pleased with how the event went.

She added: “The event was really about raising awareness of mental health and raising money to support that in our school.

“It is really important that everyone is aware of what mental health is and to make sure pupils know we are all in this together.

“Myself and my friend Gordon Elliott choreographed the dances and have been teaching the staff since January. None of them had any experience but they did fantastically well.”
