A DANCE festival for people with disabilities takes place in Johnstone on Sunday, writes Gregg Kelly.

The inaugural Dance For All Festival will welcome contestants from all corners of Scotland to the Town Hall.

The championship is the first of its kind as this year it welcomes all forms of disability, rather than previous years which were only open to wheelchair users.

Teams from Grangemouth, Falkirk and Linwood are all ready to compete and it is hoped that using this year's championship as a springboard, it can inspire further competitions in the future.

Janette Burns, whose daughter Marion is one of the main organisers of the Dance For All Festival, told The Gazette: "Sunday is sure to be a fantastic day, we're hoping to encourage anyone with a disability to join in the fun. From 11am onwards there are 20 events, different styles of dance, and best of all because it's our first year we've made it free.

"Our plan is to eventually compete against similar dance competitions in England. The last time we competed internationally was two years ago in Blackpool.

"There are medals available for the best dancers, but more importantly the Festival will bring great spirit to our community."
