A RENFREW couple have insisted being ‘best pals’ is the key ingredient to a happy marriage after celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary.
Eddie and Ann Robertson marked 60 years together at the town’s Glynhill Hotel at the weekend surrounded by family and friends.
Among the crowd on Saturday were the pair’s three children Janice, Jacqueline and Alan, along with their six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The pair met back in the late 1950s at a bakers they both worked at in Glasgow and have been living in Renfrew for almost 30 years.
And Ann said she believed the secret to a happy life together has been plenty of laughter and a dash of compromise.
Ann, 78, said: “I think the important thing is we have never let things fester. We never really fall out and we always make up if we do.
“We have learnt to compromise and we have always had lots of laughter. First and foremost, I think we are best pals and that’s really important.”
After meeting in Glasgow and marrying in 1959, Eddie was called up for National Service and became a cook in the Royal Air Force based in Lincoln.
Ann joined him in the married quarters and, after having their first daughter Janice in 1961, they moved back to Glasgow where Eddie then worked as a telephone engineer for the Post Office and then with BT.
After having their second daughter Jacqueline in 1964, and their son Alan in 1973, Ann then worked as a wages clerk before finishing up working with Glasgow City Council Voluntary Service.
Ann said over the years they have had many happy memories together, which have often involved their beloved family.

She added: “We have always enjoyed being with our family and seeing them growing up alongside us.
“We’re very close to them and we very often have them over on Saturdays for dinner.
“Some of our greatest memories are seeing our grandchildren being born and the holidays we have had, particularly one to Florida with the family for our 50th anniversary.”
