PRETTY Hollie Currie jumped for joy when she opened a Gazette in 2009 and found she had been crowned Johnstone Festival Queen.
The 11-year-old Wallace Primary six pupil from Balmoral Road, Elderslie, said at the time: “I was really nervous to open the paper to see who had won. I would have been pleased for any of the girls to win, but I was really happy when I saw that it was me.
“I jumped up and down shouting ‘it’s me’. It was the best day of my life.
“I can’t wait to make my family proud, especially my mum and dad, and my gran and grandpa Andrews.”
Hollie, who was a keen drama student and attended the Glasgow Academy of Musical Theatre and Arts, added: “I would like to thank everyone who voted for me, especially my auntie Sharon.”
Hollie’s proud parents Judith and Ian Currie were so proud of their daughter.
Judith said: “When we realised that Hollie had won the Johnstone Festival Queen competition, we were so proud of her.
“She deserved to have a lovely day. She is a very special daughter who is very kind and thoughtful. We’re absolutely delighted. We’re so proud and pleased for her.
“We have quite a small family, so it was unbelievable she had so many votes.”
Gail Abraham, of the Johnstone Festival Committee, said: “I’m absolutely delighted about the number of entries and votes we had this year. We’ve got such a lovely winner, so I’m really happy.”
