RESIDENTS and businesses have been rallying round to help make a Renfrewshire village look that little bit brighter.

Members of Elderslie Community Council set about rebedding barrier plants around the village hall, with the aim of adding some extra colour to the Stoddard Square area.

And they were delighted when Elderslie Scouts agreed to play their part by supporting the project through their annual plant sale.

The work to brighten up Elderslie has been up and running since last year, with local businesses and residents appreciating the efforts being made.

Elderslie Community Council member Linda MacMillan told The Gazette: “It can be hard work but replanting the barriers makes such a huge difference.

“The village looks so much brighter and businesses in the area seem to love it.”

Among the businesses which have been supporting the project are Elderslie Coffee Shop and Romuald SA hair and beauty salon.

As the plant sale took place and the replanting work continued, there was a steady stream of tea, coffee and snacks for those involved.

Linda said: “The Scouts were such a great help. They were also really busy on the day but, any chance they got, they were helping out with our project.

“We’re also very grateful to the businesses that helped us.”

Elderslie Community Council will stage its next meeting at 7pm on Tuesday, June 4, in Elderslie Village Hall and will then take a break for the summer before reconvening on September 4.
