A COUNCILLOR has issued a final plea for support as community members campaign for safety measures on a dangerous Linwood road, writes Jack Thomson.
Councillor Jim Sheridan has urged residents to attend a meeting on Wednesday, at which Renfrewshire Council officers will detail their traffic calming proposals for Bridge of Weir Road.
The event, which is open to members of the public, will be held in the meeting room of St Conval’s Church at 6pm.

Councillor Sheridan said residents are rightfully “angry” about the speed cars travel at on the road in question.
He said: “We can only depend on the professionalism of our officers to make the right decision.
“It’s important that we get the work started and finished as soon as possible. I was out in Linwood last week, in my car on Bridge of Weir Road, watching the speed vehicles are going at.
“I can understand why residents are angry, because it’s quite scary. The quicker we get a pedestrian crossing or traffic calming measures the better.
“The officers will put forward the proposals they have come up with and the residents will be able to share their views.”
The situation came to a head in October of last year when Elizabeth Dunnion, 85, was knocked down on Bridge of Weir Road and tragically died.
The woman’s daughter, Carolann Denvir, has since worked tirelessly to see a pedestrian crossing introduced.
The council’s favoured approach includes zebra crossings at two locations on Bridge of Weir Road.
One would be between Hart Street and Greenfarm Road, while another close to Lauder Drive.

The proposal includes a potential relocation of a bus stop.
Councillor Sheridan added: “Some residents think where the bus stop is situated just now, it’s safety hazard, while others say it’s not.
“It was a very much mixed response in that regard at the last meeting. You can’t please everybody.
“What’s important is we get the traffic calming measures and quickly.”
