PUPILS and staff at a Renfrewshire school are seeking help to secure a new playground made out of recycled toothbrushes.

It is hoped the play area at Wallace Primary, in Elderslie, can be transformed as part of the Colgate Oral Care Recycling Programme.

Toothpaste manufacturers Colgate and recycling company TerraCycle are offering the opportunity for a primary school to win a playground made from recycled oral care products, including toothbrushes, dental floss containers and toothpaste tubes.

Wallace Primary currently sits in third place (at the time of writing), with the top three guaranteed a prize.

Headteacher Susan Dalrymple is calling on the whole community to back their campaign.

She told The Gazette: “Our pupil council are keen to improve the playground and our eco committee are committed to recycling, so this is the perfect opportunity for us to help improve the environment as well.

“We are the underdogs in the competition and we are trying to get the whole community behind us to vote for Wallace Primary to win.”
