CARING teenager Ailidh Hamilton has proved she is a class act after being named Young Citizen of the Year by Barrhead Rotary Club.

Ailidh has impressed staff and her peers at Barrhead High School through her efforts to promote children’s rights.

She was instrumental in Barrhead High becoming only the second school in East Renfrewshire to secure the gold version of the Rights Respecting Schools Award.

Ailidh, 16, also volunteers with the right2dance community group and works one-to-one with young people who have additional support needs.

She was presented with a framed certificate and a cheque by the Reverend Pamela Gordon, Barrhead Rotary’s youth chair, in recognition of her efforts.

“Ailidh has shown great confidence, maturity and commitment to fellow young people over the last three or four years,” said Rev Gordon. “We look forward to seeing her blossom into an able volunteer in the community of Barrhead, where her skills and talent will be much sought after, not least by Barrhead Rotary.”
