MONEY set aside to improve Renfrew is a “fantastic boost to the town”, according to a community leader.

Callum Reid, chairman of Renfrew Community Council, believes the town’s share of a £1.46million funding package will prove a vital boost to local businesses and residents.

As part of the Town Centre Fund, Renfrew is set for improvements to Robertson Park, the town centre, and the opening of a council-run business hub in vacant buildings in Dunlop Crescent.

Mr Reid told The Gazette: “The money to improve the high street and Dunlop Crescent would be a huge improvement as it’s been a shame we have had to see businesses struggle and have to move on.

“Anything which can help local businesses will be greatly appreciated.

“In terms of Robertson Park, there are times when you can’t walk through it without having to use a phone light any time after 9pm.

“The park’s got a lot of potential so it will be good to realise it.

“This is fantastic for Renfrew.”
