YOUNGSTERS celebrated the opening of a new £185,000 extension at a skatepark in Linwood in 2009.
A purpose-built concrete bowl was added to give skaters and BMX riders the speed and momentum they needed for stunt jumps.
The facility was also provided with floodlighting so young people could get their skates on up until 9pm on winter nights.
CCTV cameras were installed too.
The original skatepark was built in 2002. Subsequently, users asked if the park could be expanded and improved to deter anti-social people from congregating there.
Councillor Marie McGurk, who was convener of Renfrewshire’s environment and infrastructure policy board, said at the time: “This is an excellent example of Renfrewshire Council listening to the people who use a facility and working to meet their needs.”
