GLASGOW Airport has been revealed as the third worst airport in the UK for drunken arrests.
Figures came to light following a Freedom of Information request which showed almost 50 jet setters were arrested between April 2017 and March 2019 due to being intoxicated at the Paisley-based airport.
Drunken travellers who sexually abused staff, urinated in public and were too intoxicated to fasten their seatbelts were among those held, police data obtained shows.
And overall – it equated to more than 400 arrests across all UK airports, with London Heathrow and Gatwick coming in first and second, whilst neighbouring Edinburgh Airport saw 22 and Aberdeen Airport had just three arrests over the two-year period.
A spokesman for Glasgow Airport said: “As these numbers confirm, incidents involving disruptive behaviour remain extremely rare in comparison to the near 20m passengers who enjoyed a safe and pleasant journey while travelling through the airport during the same period.
“We continue to operate a zero-tolerance approach through our industry-leading Campus Watch programme, which last year saw a 50 per cent reduction in disruptive behaviour offences.
“Glasgow Airport staff work closely in partnership with our Police Scotland colleagues, airlines, caterers and retailers to continually ensure the vast majority of passengers travel through the terminal without incident.
“We have absolutely no qualms in challenging any form of disruptive behaviour and will continue to do so on the very rare instances they occur.”
