A BUSY Erskine road was brought to a standstill yesterday after a burst water main flooded a street.

Engineers rushed to the site in Barrhill Road at around noon as large parts of the A726 were covered in water.

An eyewitness told The Gazette the road from the Erskine Bridge Hotel to the Erskine Bridge Roundabout became flooded, forcing drivers to use alternative routes.

“The water supply was meant to be off in order to carry out a repair but the supply was not off,” said the witness, who asked not to be named.

It was later confirmed by Scottish Water that the burst main was caused by a third party contractor who was working in the area on their behalf.

Bosses at the firm say there was no interruption to normal water supply for residents and repairs were completed at around 4pm.

Council officers also attended.
