A SERVING police officer is set to go on trial accused of carrying out a violent attack on a 14-year-old boy in Elderslie.

It’s claimed Detective Constable James Herbison, who is understood to work for Greater Glasgow CID, attacked the child in the village’s Byres Road on November 25 last year.

The case against DC Herbison, who is understood to work for Greater Glasgow Criminal Investigation Department, called for the first time at Paisley Sheriff Court in July.

Prosecutors claim DC Herbison grabbed the boy and caused him to fall to the ground.

The charge states DC Herbison then pressed his knee against the teen’s body, restricting his breathing.

The trial is scheduled to take place next month.
