A JOHNSTONE man has appeared in court charged with blasting three paramedics in the face with pepper spray.
Trevor Leckey, 58, is said to have sprayed a noxious substance on Tracey McGill, Fiona Hendry and Pauline Brothy in the town’s Collier Street.
It is claimed he broke the Firearms Act 1968 with his alleged actions on August 25 this year.
Leckey, of High Street, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court in connection with the case last week and made no plea to the three charges against him – culpable and reckless behaviour, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of an offensive weapon, namely an extendable baton.
He was represented by defence solicitor Terry Gallanagh during the short, behind-closed-doors hearing.
Prosecutors were opposed to Leckey, who had not been held in custody by police, being granted bail but Mr Gallanagh successfully argued he should not be held on remand in prison as he awaits trial.
Sheriff Simon Fraser continued the case for prosecutors to investigate further and released Leckey on bail.
No future court dates have been set but he is expected to go on trial before a jury later this year.
