A SUPPORT group for men in a Renfrewshire village has moved a step closer to finding a venue.
Plans for a Men’s Shed in Bridge of Weir could soon become a reality after local businessman Ian Beaton announced a building could be located within his coal yard.
Now, village councillor James MacLaren has welcomed talks of a potential move to the Beaton Brothers Coal Merchants, in Station Yard, at the heart of Bridge of Weir.
Councillor MacLaren, whose ward of Bishopton, Bridge of Weir and Langbank covers the yard, said: “I have been pushing for a Men’s Shed in Bridge of Weir for some time and very much welcome this progress.

“This is a strong commitment from Ian Beaton and the coal merchants would certainly be a suitable site for a substantial Men’s Shed.
“They are a fantastic way of bringing men together socially and boosting their confidence.
“I believe that this represents a significant step forward.
“I will be continuing to liaise closely with stakeholders to ensure that a Men’s Shed soon becomes a reality.”
